What is a Family Photoshoot?
A good family photo is more than just a pretty picture. Capturing the moments of your family life and preserving them for generations to come is a wonderful way to keep your loved ones close to you even when they’re far away.

The best family photo sessions not only capture the moment, they also capture the love and laughter that makes your family unique. They can be as fun or as formal as your family feel comfortable with. A good starting point is to determine the style of family photography desired. A family with small children may appreciate a candid, unstructured approach that captures the unguarded moments of their playtime. A family with older children who are coordinated and cooperative may enjoy a more formal photo shoot in our studio.

For a successful family photo shoot, it’s important to remember that it’s not about looking good in the picture; it’s about living in the moment and capturing that precious moment in time.

What to wear for your family Photoshoot?
Half the battle of a family photoshoot is knowing what to wear on the day. They are multiple options for the type of clothing that you may consider casual, smart and comfortable. We normally suggest you consider:

  • Avoid putting together exactly the same outfits for everyone. Instead, prepare and organise outfit colours that complement each other.
  • Using different fabrics when the outfit is the same colour as the different clothing textures will pick up independently in your images.
  • Don’t be afraid to wear patterns as they add movement to a static image.
  • Wear clothing with vertical stripes instead of horizontal as they follow the curves of the body and make you look slender.
  • Avoid oversized clothes as they don’t provide a slimming effect in your pictures. Fitted clothing that hugs your body shape work best.
  • Pick an outfit that you feel absolutely comfortable in because you look great.. you feel great!
How to prepare for your family photoshoot?
Planning and preparing well is the secret to a great family photoshoot. Preparing for a family photoshoot is a task that many parents look forward to, but often put off due to the extensive amount of work that needs to be done. However, it is safe to say that the more you prepare in advance, the smoother the photoshoot will go.

  • Make sure to schedule any hair, makeup or nail appointments in plenty of time before the photoshoot. Make sure that you select a haircut that you know suits you and make sure your nail varnish is not chipped if you’re wearing it. Just small details to look out for in order for your family to get the best pictures.
  • Plan your outfits a few days before the photoshoot as you don’t want the problem of having any last-minute mishaps with the outfits if you’re choosing them a day before the shoot.
  • Be sure not to schedule your photoshoot around your child’s nap time or bedtime and try not to show up to the session on an empty stomach. If you have dinner scheduled for after the shoot then make sure to have a healthy snack before it starts.
  • Prepare the kids (especially the toddlers) and try and make the occasion sound fun and playful for them to take part in and let them know that it’s just another family day out.

We advise you to either arrive in your normal attire or you can bring your choice of clothing with you.

How to pose for your family Photoshoot?
As professional photographers, we’ve worked with many families, families that have never been in front of a camera. We always get asked the same question, “What is the best way to pose for a family photoshoot?” We’ve learned that there is no single answer to this question. In order to pose for a family photoshoot, you first need to understand who is in your family. What is your family like? Are you the goofy family that likes to put on a show? Are you a serious, sophisticated family?

Our professional photographers will assist you in creating the best poses that are right for your family photoshoot. We look to capture natural expressions and interactions with the family so feel free to just relax and play with your children.

If it helps you and your family feel more comfortable, bring an activity that you all love to do together. It will keep your hands and feet occupied, keep the little ones engaged and bring authentic smiles to everyone’s faces. The activities could range from playing board and card games to bringing a ball and having a little throwing session and kick about with your family. The possibilities are endless.

It is our job to make you feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible so that you look your absolute best in your photos.

What happens after your photoshoot?
The images from your photoshoot are then fully edited and retouched then sent over to our private viewing room. You can view all your photos on the day and in our opinion this is the best bit! You get to see the amazing results of your photoshoot, and we are extremely confident that you will be over the moon with your beautiful family pictures!
